Default Itouch and cell phone on plane

Hi guys. This is my first time going back to Philippines in about 11 years. I was just wondering if you actually need to turn off your itouch during flight. I heard it will be bad for the planes signal or w.e. I can't turn off my touch do to when I purchased it on craigalist it was already jailbroken meaning I can't turn it off or it won't turn on again unless I take it to a shop to get it rebooted. So the question is, do I really need to turn it off? I also see that there is a option called, airplane mode. What's the use of that option on the itouch if you have to turn it off?

I know a couple of members here works at the airport. Hopefully they could try to verify this for me also. Just can't recall who the people were haha.

PS: I'm leaving this Sunday so hopefully Someone could help me out here

    Thanks,
    Clint

The instruction on the plane is only during take-off and landing for fear of interference with communication with control tower. In between, I think they want you to use open air style headset in case you cannot hear instructions in the event of an emergency.

Meaning? I would still have to turn it off on the take off and landing is that correct? Does it makes a difference if I put it on airplane mode? What I mean is, would it still maybe interfere with communications?

    Thanks for the response.

I know they won't want any headphones or ear plugs on your head during takeoff or landing. No music and airplane mode - may as well turn it off

Seriously, I think I just put mine on airplane mode on short hauls

Missed you jail-broken part I think you should be fine.

Haha yeah missed my jailbroken part it's ok. Yeah I wouldn't use it on the plane anyways, it's just cuz I will have to transfer planes in Japan but I have to wait for 3 to 4 hours before boarding the plane again. What will I do without music In that long amount of time. haha.

Hopefully someone in the airport industry can double confirm this. If not, I guess i need to get it rebooted and get it unjailbroken haha.

Nothing against you gklaw. I always just want a second Opinion that's all

You can jailbreak YOUR Apple product without worry of a "tethered" jail break. This isn't a forum to go beyond that, however I do respect one's ability to do so for an expensive consumer item such as yours, as opposed to comparing it to calculator. As far as planes go, the us has just allowed pilotes to use Ipads in their cockpits, although passengers are still forbidden to use electronics from my understanding of that announcement that year (American Airlines First To Be Granted FAA Approval For Pilot iPads | TechCrunch)

airplane mode is just that.Put it on that and your good to go.You can use the device all you want as when it is in airplane mode NO signals are emitted by the device. IE; searching for service.( the worst thing that happens due to the accessibility of more towers from a plane compared to on the ground.) Airplane mode is the only save way to fly with it .Have a GREAT time BTW !

I've always wondered about this myself. Talked to my cousin who worked for Westjet and she said if there really was a true danger to flights, they would ban it from the plane period. Likely a legacy regulation from way back in the day.

Thank you very much guys. Yeah effox. But I have the new itouch and only got the tethered type. Not the untethered. I have put it on airplane mode. Thanks for the information guys. Now I hope my brother will not forget to do once a week water changes and the feedings.
