Default Vancouver Island Classified Section Friendly

    Hello All,

Well i am trying something new to be more Island friendly! I think a great part of our website is our classified section.

I have been asked ALOT in the past to help people on the island sift through the classified section easier so i spent some time and went ahead with it.

I would love to keep this option if it's widely used so please let me know if this is useful to you guys on the island.

You will now notice that below the classified section links on the forum homepage there is a link below every section that says Vancouver Island, if you click on that it will bring you into the appropriate section for vancouver island.

I always love to hear other suggestions if you have any.

My suggestion would be to give them their own classified section all together for all topics

    Kinda like this

Classifieds - Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
    --Freshwater Livestock
    --Freshwater Plants
    --freshwater equipment
    --Marine

Classifieds - Rest of BC (i can't think of anything better right now, still on my first pot of coffee)
    --Vancouver Island
    --Kootneys/okanagon
    --The Cariboo/Central BC
    --Northern BC
    29G Community Tank || 9.8G Twin Tanks || 2.5G Nano Tank
    Neven's Planted Addiction
Affliliations: VAHS #43, BCA PA14, TPT FP116; aka outcast on tpt

Thats a bad idea. It will get cluttered too much.
    (Just my opinion)

The way I am trying to do it right now will keep it alot cleaner, easier to find stuff, and keep the amount of categories on the main page to what it is right now, if we add another.. however many it will just keep increasing the amount of scrolling on the homepage.. which makes it messier.

I appreciate your input though! I will try this first off and see how it does.

putting a location in is 1 thing, but searching by location is another.. much more complicated. I know it sounds easy.... but its' not lol.

The way i am trying to do it right now is just have a sub forum strictly for the vancouver island memebers, that way they can simply select that specific subforum in the classifieds.. and boom it's all there.

This is how I see it.

    1st
There should be a once a week(7 days) bump rule when it comes to Classified items, rather than right now a member can bump threads as they feel.

    2nd
Only The original person who started the thread in the Classified should be the only one able to reply, so basically all threads are locked but only the original poster can post in their thread so they can bump it once a week. This helps support the once a week bump rule and stops people from making a sale add 2+ pages long for no reason. If the buyer or browser has a question they should always deal with it in pm's.
Also it helps keep sale adds cleaner for when the item/items are sold the seller can edit their 1st post or reply with a "delete"/"sold"/"Banana" on their thread if everything is sold, This makes it easier for the mods to move their thread to the sold section keeping the main classifieds cleaner.

    3rd
I believe as a seller they should be held responsible to clarified in their sale add if they are willing to ship or if it's a local pick up only. The Vancouver Island "Sub Forum" is a great idea, but what's the point? I feel it makes this forum look even more like a VancouverOnlyAquaria.com than a BCAquarium.com that it is. Sure some items such as tanks/stands/livestock can not be shipped, well anything can be but cheaply is what I'm getting at. Where items such as filters/heaters/deco/pumps ext can easily be shipped for under $10.

    I've bought 2 items threw these forums in the last 8month but I tried to buy at least 15 other shippable items only be to turned down cause the seller/sellers;
A)Doesn't understand online payments such as PayPal,EMT or DD.
B)Doesn't understand post offices, and there's a wack full of them in Vancouver.
C)To lazy to box it and bring to a post office.

When I 1st signed up on these forums 12month ago this was the 1st place I would come for help/info/look at classifieds, heck it's how I found the VIA forums. After the site had it's crash and lost everything it took me at least 2 or 3 month to make a new account, now I never come here for help or info and I barely even look at the Classifieds cause of the "Vancouver Only" vibe I get from this forum. I'm a member on an North American fish forum and their members are more willing to ship livestock than this forum is willing to ship items alone, what does that say? Makes me wonder what a seller does when there's a buyer in Northern or Eastern BC that's willing to pay for shipping like myself. What the city members don't understand is there is only a small selection of stores in our area, so items we find on the classifieds on these forums are better than what we would find in our area even if they're used.

This is a Vancouver Fish Forum, not a BC Fish Forum where people don't have a clue what a post office is.

I don't think that's it at all. If you're selling an item for $10 and there are any number of people willing to come to your house to get it, why spend opportunity cost to go to the post office and mail it? I don't pick up items cheaper than $500 at the border for the same reason. If you make $50 an hour, and it takes you 20 minutes to go to the post office, you just spent $15 selling your $10 item. I know many people don't count time as money, but many others do. The bottom line is, no matter what the rules are, people can still choose to sell or not sell to whomever they want, as it's not a store, but a personal classifieds. Even if you try to buy items off Craiglist you would have the same issue.
