No free shipping on price matched items???

This is a discussion on No free shipping on price matched items??? within the Big Al's Online forums, part of the Sponsors category; My friend and I were trying to order some things and we got some items price matched and our items ...

    Default No free shipping on price matched items???

    My friend and I were trying to order some things and we got some items price matched and our items are well over the 350-400 range but they will not do free shipping nor the bcaquaria discount code. I give them credit for price matching but I don't see how they say free shipping over 35 bux when our items we want to order is over that by 10 times the free shipping amount, their info is misleading...Bigals is a bunch of crock and just lost a few customers!

    I know that free shipping typically does not apply to heavy items (gravel or hardscape items), or extremely fraglie items (ie. fish tanks and light bulbs). If these are the items purchased, this may be the logic behind the ommision of free shipping. Just want ensure this is NOT the case with your items !

    No the items isn't gravel nor fish tanks. It was Prime and some other non fragile supplies with a UV sterilizer price matched from other sites...

    Perhaps the UV sterilizer could be considered fragile? (since it has a bulb) Just a guess based off of CRS Fan's comment.

    Agreed about the bulb, I've never had a problem with free shipping from them the multiple times I've been a customer.

    Sorry to hear about your issue, but have you tried contacting them directly prior to posting here? I've also never had any issue using the BCAquaria discount, so I would contact them directly if you haven't already.

    Yes my friend talked to a rep on the phone directly. He argued and argued about the shipping and the bca discount. They said doesn't apply on price matched items and because the other website for the price match doesn't offer free shipping...I can somewhat understand that but how come the bca discount code doesn't work??? BA rep said it's their rules and decision...

    JLaquatics and petsandponds.com doesn't charge shipping on UV's...its safely packed tightly in a box. Yes can be fragile but not fragile like fish tanks or any other items...that's like sayiing a canister filter doesn't apply cuz it's fragile as the outer container shell could crack....

    My understanding is that the discount is off of their regular price. How much of a discount was the price match? exactly how much of a discount are you looking for? I would have PMd the Big Als rep here before posting something. Please don't ruin a nice benefit we have here by calling them a bunch of crock. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

    To follow up on this thread I just wanted to provide an update. I was the one that ordered this for Crazyfish88 as we just put the order through together.

    Initially I had them price match with another site, which has been explained and gone over. However since then a couple things have happened.

    I got my half of the order , and could tell there was no 55w uv sterilizer in there. Not a problem as I knew there were two packages. Expected date came and past, gave a couple days and the Canada post tracking was not updating that it had left Vancouver. I live in Victoria so thought it would be coming any day.

    It did not, and never updated so I called Canada post, they said it can take 24 hrs.. that went and no update. So gave it a bit then I asked if anyone could even find the package as it hadn't been updated in 4 days in the Richmond center. They said they couldn't find it, so now not so happy as my buddy needed the uv sterilizer sooner than later.

    Gave it a bit more time and canada post said call Big al's and get them to initiate a expedited search request or something along those lines, essentially it is putting pressure on canada post to look for it quicker than the 5-10 days they quoted me. I called in and spoke to a supervisor, he said that the next morning, today, their shipping rep would do the work and he would call me back first thing this morning.

    That came and went, and then I found out that the parcel had actually been sent back to Mississauga. I will admit it is better that I didn't get a broken one, but I had to wait on hold with Canada Post for 1 hour to get that info. I never got a call from Big als, which I find more irritating.

    I called into Big Al's and spoke to the same rep as the day before, the guy who gave me to his supervisor. He knew who I was and said the supervisor just went out for lunch and he'd get him to call me back asap. Time goes by supervisor does not return, so rep called me back.

    I had asked him what the options were, and he said I could
    wait for it to get returned, then they clear the return and resend it to me
    order another one
    get a refund.

    I was now somewhat irritated as they knew the package was coming back and thought they might just be able to send me one to help me out as they knew the product was coming back and I had already paid for one with delivery date that had well passed.

    I said I couldn't wait and the rep said ok bye and hung up before I could ask for any confirmation number or anything about the refund.

    This post is just a heads up, and update to the thread, so take it how you want to. This is a forum and reviews are meant to be shared, good or bad. Based on this interaction, I will never deal with Big Al's again. Shipping is not their fault, as things happen, but when you say you will do something such as a call back and there is none that's not cool, and when you hang up on a customer that is never alright. I can understand if someone is being belligerent or rude, but I was not and this is something that I find unacceptable.

    Sorry if they are a sponsor here but stuff like this should be shared in a community.

    PS. if there are any big als reps here perhaps you guys should crisp up your web page about the price matching if you are going to be sticklers to the fine print:
