They slow down as they get bigger. When I am growing out discus my goal is 4" at six months and 6" at 12 months. Some people can grow them faster, others grow them slower but it seems you only have about an 18 month window to get them up to size. After that they grow very little IME.

Thanks for clarifying. That makes sense to me. 18 months is still a very short time compared to plecos. Mine are stilling growing after 5 years.

An inch a month would be nice. I am already seeing some blue in the fins of these guys. And my wife, who feeds them at least 3 times during the day, says they are eating everything she puts in.

Trying to get a good picture of these guys has been a challenge. I can already see some visible difference in size. They eat continuously. My wife drops some food into the tank everytime she walks past and there is never anything left when she is there next. They get fed around 10 times a day. The 90%+ WC's have continued nightly. I'll have to get some shots showing a loonie as reference. But here's the latest from last night.

They still love to huddle behind the sponge, but come out and eat when you aren't watching them, and are getting a little more bold when you are. Soon they'll be too big to hide behind the sponge anymore.

Like that determination Looking good Daniel, I can see its nice fat belly.

I have not set up the feeder yet, so mine got fed once in the morning and like 6X a night and they vacuum them up. I actually have to change the flow in my tank last night or the bully will eat all by itself.

I think that is pretty standard behaviour Daniel......mine are doing exactly the same.......getting a little more "bold" all the time. Coming out more often.....staying out longer

That's the kind of optimistic attitude that will make this "contest" a fun experience

Thanks guys. Yeah, I am not worried by the hiding. Other groups I have grown out tried to do that even at 3" size.

And yup, positive attitude, positive result

Well I am stunned. Did the big water change last night like usual. All 6 little guys were swimming around fine and eating like usual after. Wake up this morning and 2 are floating, dead and a third on the floor, dead. I have absolutely no idea why. There was no change in routine or anything else. The remaining 3 still look good. Anyone have any ideas? Man, what a way to have the wind taken out of your sails.
