Some of you know, we have a fly river turtle for a while now.
I know many people are keeping FRT with many types of fish. We also are trying many possibilities as well.
This is what we like so far...
We have a 48g tank for our 5-6" FRT now with a couple dozen tetra. So far, it has been working wonderful. The turtle totally ignores them. They are too fast and too small for the turtle to consider them as food. They produce very little bio-load. And you can put quite a lot there.
This is what we have:
2 x bleeding heart
12 x cardinals
12 x green fire tetra
12 x bloodfin
6 x gold tetra
Best of this combination, I don't feed the fish. You don't need to. FRT is a very messy eater. When it eats pellet, it will crush them and with lots of small pieces coming out. The smaller fish are flying around its mouth getting those scapes from the turtle.
I know many of you have your FRT with arowana, bass, dorado, rays, discus, or even bare tank by itself. And I know for a fact that some FRT will bite any tankmates that is big. Give this small fish a try. In a big tank, it is quite amazing...
