Chinese butterfly plecoe

This is a discussion on Chinese butterfly plecoe within the Catfishes forums, part of the Species category; I got this little guy today, are they very common? They apparently only grow to about 1.5-2" long. Never seen ...

    Cool Chinese butterfly plecoe

    I got this little guy today, are they very common? They apparently only grow to about 1.5-2" long. Never seen one before. the picture is not the greatest I could only get him with his back to us on a pot .

    I have 3 of them. Not very common at all
    33 Gallon- Silvertip plecos, 6 ottos, 2 Whiptail catfish, 1 clown pleco the alpha male my Red Eye Albino pleco

    10 Gallon - Khalifa the Blue and Red Crowntail Betta/shrimp tank

    is this not a hill stream loach?

    yes I looked them up on google and that was another name mentioned. They are a loach not a plecoe according to what I read.

    this is correct, i see them every now and then, i have a couple. From what ive read and seen, they like to have alot of water movement and mine changes color to match its surroundings (well changes tones of brown)
    i have lots of tanks
    and im a welder who likes playing with glass

    I have 1 in my tank - almost never see him
    120 Gal Community, 65 Gal Albino Bristlenose Breeding tank, 20 gal Cherry Shrimp/Nursery Tanks

    I was showing my wife the new butterfly and he changed color as he changed location.

    I've seen them a few times at a lfs in guildford. I never knew they can change color. That's awesome. Maybe you can take a video of it changing colors when you get a chance of seeing it again

    Gee now we are getting too techie for me I can do the picture thing, I have a flip video camera and know how to take the video but putting it on u-tube! now I'm lost, my son showed me how to do it once. I need more lessons then I'll try and do that.
