I believe what i have is a common pleco.
Its about 4inches long.
and recently ive noticed that it surfaces for air.
Is this what they do? or could there be something wrong with my water? (ie, high ph)
edit: my 2 julie cory's also does this

you should list the water parameters if possible
is it right after a water change? i noticed my bristlenose plecos doing that a few times, not often tho
mine does it quite often i would say.
Still looks healthy and is eating, so im not concerned about that.
Water parameters arent available. i dont have any water testing kits.
Can I be so bold as recommend a master fresh water test kit...it will save the guess work.
Hope everything alright with your water parameters.
Mine surfaces all the time for air, am sure it is amusing for him as he hits the cover while doing it. I am sure he is healthy, as he eats anything, and is a poop machine. So between me freakin out from him gulping air then hitting the cover, and me constantly vacuuming his mess I would say his life is really good! Always testing my water and it is fine. Good luck!
