They would be fine for planted tanks and they do look really cool.
I know that they are supposed to be algae eaters but mine don't seem to do a great job of it. In fact, they would rather hang out at the worm feeder eating the lbw that I give the discus.
Depending on the type of algae and assuming its not bba, I personally don't think that you can beat bristlenoses
Short term you will be okay as long as the tank isn't over planted. They love wood as well. It will out grow your 20 gallon though as I have had one about 12 inches long and currrently have a 8 inch long one approximatly 3 years old. There not too good at turning and getting around stuff either![]()
12 inches wow! i read their max size is 7 inches. i will have to look at the scientific name at the one at the store, to make sure we are talking about the same one. thanks for your info. would you recommend any algae eaters, for my 20 gallon.
Definitely go with the BN - I've seen several members selling them periodically...

For a plain ole Bristlenose pleco, many forum members are selling them at $3-$5 a piece depending on how many you want. You can also PM Pat (MyKiss) at Canadian Aquatics for some of his albino, long-finned and other variants.

I really like otos for algae eaters personally, although you need several, and they can be sensitive when first introduced.
