    Default Angelfish Behavior

ive been noticing at night one of my angelfish have been making some noise, he will pop his mouth out of the water and suck up some air and shoot it out his gills. is this normal? should i be concerned? or is he just playing?. its mainly at night, sometimes during the day. im assuming hes playing, or likes the feeling, but i just want to make sure its not a sign of something i should correct, or give him in anyway.

If he's popping his mouth out of the water, sounds like that there is not enough oxygen in the tank? My fish when I first started was doing that but now stopped because i added another air stone thingy. But my fish weren't angel fish though so I might be wrong

yeah thats what kind of worry's me right now, the filter is pretty strong and moves the water but its a submergable filter, with a ghetto spray bar attached to the out-take. so it doesnt agitate the water like a h.o.b filter would.

heres a pic of the set up to get a better visual idea.

mmmmmmmmmm...idk...obvioulsy the more o2 the better but if he is going up , popping then coming back down it may not be the 02 or a problem. when my angels r distressed they stay at the top and gulp not go up and down. there was a thread about this on the old forum and many had noted a popping sound form their angels so i am not sure it is cause for concern. i would be more concerned if they all were doing it. you have more agitation than my angels have.

yeah i know what your saying about them staying at the top in distress, they go everywhere and usually dont just stay at the top, it was hard to figure out at first what the angels where doing but late last night i was watching them and noticed the one black one doing it, he sticks his mouth out and then shoots air out of his gills fast. im not sure if they all are, but i saw only the one doing it for a while
