    Default Apisto... Apisto...

My West African tank is temporarily on hold since I acquired these guys... looks like I may have to (in the far future) set up a community type tank

Currently just a photo of one male. The others are a PITA to take pix of due to being camera shy

EDIT.... managed to coax the other 2 out for a bit of a photo session.

    Hello Kameko.

Nice Apistos and Madagascar Lace Plant. Did you set up a 22L with Florabase for your apistos? Tank looks good, BTW.

    Best Regards,

Thanks Stuart I set up a 21 gallon Exo-Terra turtle tank with florabase. The dwarf hairgrass hates the apisto's and vice versa. Wanna come over and replant for me? Or just take the freakin' hairgrass?

Those are some nice looking apistogrammas, trying to figure out what they are species wise?First pic is of a male, second is a female, third looks like a female, although size and colour is pointing towards male.Regardless, they are alot of fun and interesting to watch come breeding time.

See, I thought the second one was a male also and that the third is a female The second one gets picked on by the big male in the first photo. They're Apistogramma Rositae.

They appear to be Apistogramma panduro.

    Grete,

Thanks for the clarifying the species, females are always on the smaller size with most if not all apistogrammas(some other species the females are bigger),have less colour to their bodies,no elaborate fins or "trailers" as the males do,and have a yellow and dark black colouring to them when ready to breed(as in your photo ).Females can be very aggressive come breeding time, and are known to kill their partner or others females and take their clutch of eggs.Nice find, havent had these guys yet,but have tried various others.

    Stuart,

Panduros dont have the "fan" shaped tail as these guys do,and the facial features are way different with the panduro as they have the "pouty face" and bigger lips for distinct features.Panduros are also larger in size, have orange markings on their tail,yellow/blue for their dorsal-pectoral-anal fins and dark colour towards the end of their body.
