I've used Egg Yolk before, fouls up the water sometimes though.

How old are they? I fed my yellow lab fries hikari first bites for the first month or something. Then when they got bigger, I fed them crushed flake food.

If there only 1 week old swimming and without the egg yolk attached to them still, I would say start off with hikari first bites. Then when there bigger, you could start feeding them with crushed flake food.

What kind of cichlid are they btw?

my Lamprologus multifasciatus (smallest cichlids in the world) fry eat 1mm NLS pellets from the day they first come out of their shells, they dont seem to have any problems pecking at them once theyve softened up. i dont use any specialty fry foods and havent had any problems raising tons of fry. spirulina flake would be fine too ive used it in the past before switching to NLS
