    Default baby oscars

hey when i see petshops and people i know get baby oscars they seem to house them in 10g-20g tank just to start with, the oscar does look small in that but will outgrow tank yea. because of it being a short term home, how long u recommend? if they leave it for a year thats too long yea maybe 3-4 months at the max. its just my friend has put a single baby oscar in his 20g and he says 'oh ill get a bigger tank down the road' lol i think many fail here.
and that as they say is that.

If properly taken care of, a small 2 inch oscar will grow at an average rate of about an inch a month to 1.5 months.... I'd say you got a few months to set up and fully cycle a minimum 75 gallon tank...

i have seen adult oscars in my other mates 100g and at what 14 inches and chubby, the tank looks narrow when both oscars are next to each other lol my friend over the road has a 20g and thats all he has at the moment, he did say it will be fine for a year but i dont think so. i think people fall for the 'small' baby oscar easily.

.hi at youtube the 30g is popular for young oscars and from 1 to 3 in a tank im finding in my researches but yet their water so clear?, maybe for display or that they do daily water changes?, im wondering here as oscar a messy fish i have heard with a bad bioload, it must be hard to keep 30g good with an oscar fish.

Clear water, in this situation, i'd imagine is probably alot of water changes or excessive filtration

Well to be fair, you could have clear water with 200ppm of nitrates, so clear water doesn't say very much. The main problem is that in a 30g, an oscar won't get anywhere near it's max size; it'll get stunted.

yea i see at comments to videos that the proper oscar owners get anoyed at these clips. i was wondering if u had a heavy planted tank with good filter is that better than just filter and no plants?, its just i heard plants do alot in your tank but maybe not do much for a messy oscar fish.

    use google...read

I suggest you start with how the tank cycle works, please advise you buddy with the oscar to do the same if he types" oscar fish care" it should give him an idea on what sized tank it needs... and again READ not just watch videos and look at pic's

Waaaay back in the day, (1983-4), my friend Vince bought 4 baby oscars that he kept in a 33g. 3 grew well and one was stunted. I took his stunted one and gave it its own tank (33g I believe). It immediately began growing and outgrew its once-bigger siblings. The remaining three then ended up producing another runt and so I took that little guy home with me as well. The new runt soon had a growth spurt and caught up to my other original runt. Within a month or two, both runts were larger than Vince's remaining oscars and were transferred into a 108g (which was about the largest size tank you could buy back in the 80s without going for a custom. They both reached 14-15 inches in length even though they were originally the runts of the group.
