    Default DISCUS with

OK. So i after giving it some thought, I believe I have my new stock list for my soon to be planted 80 tall. 5-6 Red Discus, with 3 German blue rams, 3 golden rams, a small school of tetras, ideally i would prefer black neons. With a few corys a whiptail and pleco to clean up the bottom and help combat algae. Right now my biggest concern is weather or not the corys can live with the high water temp that the discus need to thrive, is my concern warranted am i missing anything, does anyone have any ideas or concerns. Please any and all input will be greatly appreciated Thank You. ... ... David

I had all those fish on your wish list (except for the golden ram) with my discus before and have no problem. You should be fine.

Most Corys will fare well in the discus temps - the only negative being that it may somewhat shorten their overall normal life spans.

David, those fish you listed including cory will be OK with your discus. One concern is you must pay much more attention to those fish you want to mix with discus. You should get them 100% health! , or you must quarantine them for while a while, not just 1 or 2 weeks before you mix them with discus. those 2 or 5 dollars fish can cause big trouble to your discus...

Sterbai's can definitely handle higher temperatures and they have great color too

I have had many on your list, and have a few comments. Since you used generalized common names, I have to make some assumptions.

Plecos: they generate quite a bioload. If you want algae eating ability, go with bristlenose. Hypancistrus are better suited to discus diets and temps, but don't eat algae.

Corys: There are hundreds upon hundreds of cories. Do your research and choose ones (like Sterbai) that handle high temps better.

Tetras: Black neons are cool and I currently have them, but I am finding that they're not even making 2 years in the higher temps. I have had better success at discus temps with Rummy Nose and Cardinal Tetras.

Whiptail: They're in the Loricariidae family and would be considered plecos, and have the same limitations as most....lower temps and high oxygen/flow requirements. There are a few that would work, such as the farm bred L10a, so once again, do your research, as many would not handle the higher temps very well.

Aint gonna repeat what a few have already posted, but another catfish you may wanna consider for a bit of maintaince is school of otocinclus.Stay quite small and do a great job looking after your aquarium, but also need to be offered a varied diet not completely rely on algae. If your gonna add a few cories remember to keep them in larger groups, you will see their behaviour be more active and social in larger numbers. As with most cats,a bit of flow in the water column helps as well.Nothing to harsh though, your discus need calm spots to move about as well.

Sterbai corys did well in my discus tank. Otos or a bristle nosed pleco for algae control.

My panda corys did not cope well with the warmer water, I moved them to cooler temps and they were much more active.
