    Default Is Discus a Cichlid?

I am new to Discus raising and relatively new to this site. I read that Discus is actually a Cichlid. Surprised. If so, why there is not much Discus threads in this Species section for Cichlid? Also, to the moderator, will there be a thread for Discus on this BCA site to centralize discussions on Discus or we are forced to look elsewhere for Discus?

Yes, there are many discus keepers & enthusiasts in BC, and members of this forum.
April Ross, "April's Aquarium" shop in Kerrisdale on Dunbar near the corner of 41st (aprilsaquarium.com) is probably the best, if not the only, place in Vancouver to get top-quality discus. Visit her site to get a good grounding - articles, gallery, etc.
Visit her shop & have a chat with her - she sure knows where it's at, as far as discus are concerned !

Thanks for the lead. I am thinking more why not have a species thread on Discus besides fish like cat fish etc. If there are so many of us keeping the king of fresh water tropical fish, it seems logical that we should have a centralized discussion thread.

lol idk if i'd consider those finnicky fish kings, maybe princesses :P
    africans are the true kings!

I'd suggest either make a discus thread in the cichlid section or check this forum out if you want a purely discus discussion forum its here: SimplyDiscus

    Default Simply Discus

Is that a BC or Lower Mainland site? It would be nice to chat or get to know local discus experts or to buy/sell/trade with local discus lovers.

not sure tbh, most of the discus keepers on here are also on there though.
u should just go thru the tank journals and photo galleries and you'll see whose keeping discus. ive seen em in the classifieds plenty too.
if i were you i'd just create a thread and name it "who here keeps discus in the lower mainland" ?
i did that with tropheus and it worked :P

Simply is a US site. I don't believe there are enough keepers in BC alone to support a site. BCA is as close as it gets. If you think this site deserves it's own discus subforum, you can always suggest it to Shawn (Nicklfire) as that's how the catfish forum started (originally was plecos, but changed to catfish).
