Default Electric Blue Jack Dempsey Lifespan?

I was just wondering what the expected lifespan is for EBJD's? Supposedly they don't live nearly as long as the regular JD's (about 10 years). I read somewhere online that they usually only live for 3-5 years if you're lucky. Does anybody on here have an EBJD that is a few years old? If so, how's it doing?

I'm asking because I have an EBJD that's at least 2.5 years old and she seems to be slowly deteriorating.

I had the same thing, except mine was just a little guy. I think the inbreeding process used to achieve those colours produces a weak fish. Just look at how many of them come in deformed.

My poor EBJD is looking really rough . She hasn't eaten in over 2 weeks and I just saw that she has some kind of new open wound on her head. I'll throw some more salt in the tank, but I don't think it's worth even trying to medicate her ...she's already too far gone. It's really hard seeing her this way.

I decided to euthanize Bleu last night . She didn't even have the energy to swim away from the net, so I knew it was time. She was almost three years old and I had raised her since she was only 1.5". Here are some old photos of Bleu ...

    Hello Pamela.

At least Bleu lived a happy life ! I've seen your tanks and they were always well maintained . May she rest in peace.
