    Default Firemouth info

Looking to see other peoples experience in keeping a single Firemouth with other SA cichlids. Are they more aggressive towards tankmates when kept as a single? More shy? Love the colors on these guys.

Thinking of trying one in a 90G with other 4-5" Geos. I'm just worried about
    the aggressiveness towards the Geos.

    Thoughts appreciated!

Although i've never kept the mix myself I wouldn't worry about a fire mouth alone, as a pair maybe but a solo shouldn't bother the geo's.

I've seen them kept with pair's of more aggressive cichlids then fire mouths with no issue so a single fire mouth shouldn't be a problem!

    Hello,

I've kept Thorichthys meeki with other sa cichlids and they were fine. As long as it's not a mated pair. Firmouths can get very territorial while breeding. But if it's just one in the tank you should be fine.

I've kept Firemouths with other SA cichlids without problems, however, as Jason notes, they get quite territorial when breeding. They are one of my favorite SA fish actually..

I have a pair of 4 inch firemouths in my 120, along with labs, red zebras, super red empress, kenyi, and others. They have territorial displays mostly with the kenyi. But seldom any contact. I thought that my pair might be m/f as they stuck together like glue but I now think they are both males. Reminds me of the old saying " united we stand, divided we fall ".

    Pic of one of them.

when u keep firemouths is it best in 2's? i heard they can really go for tank mates, sure i read on yahoo! answers that people were saying they would rip an angelfish apart but when i saw them at the aquactics they looked rather cute lol i always think if u have a larger tank then they could get away from threats. except for red tailed sharks who seem to chase to the death and best avoided as they say.
and that as they say is that.

My two firemouths have been with my other afican cichlids for almost a year now and they dont bother anyone except the occasional staredown with the kenyi.
Speaking of red tailed sharks, my 1 1/2 silver mollie chases the 6 inch red tailed shark all over the tank. Wont give him a minutes peace. LOL
