Minimum for a SINGLE Oscar is 75 gallons; a pair would need about 125 gallons, or at least a 72 by 18 footprint.

whats full grown.... Are we talking the average 12 inch, or the properly grown 14 - 16 inch?

The bigger the tank, the happier they will be

A standard 75 has a foot print of 48x18, which is enough for even a 16 inch oscar, although I've only heard about them getting that big. And while a bigger tank is always better, it's really the footprint that matters for cichlids, as most cichlids don't care about the height of the tank as long as it's tall enough to submerge them completely and allow a decent bit of space to move up and down (mainly so they can beg for food).

If you're serious about keeping oscars, give this site a visit: Cichlid-Forum.com

Very knowledgable cichlid keepers there from all over the world. They'll probably be able to tell you much more than I can.

1 oscar is fine, wouldn't put any other cichlids with it though. Catfish or some type maybe.

In a 100 gallon tank you can keep easily 1 Oscar with the right filtration. You can add some more cichlids under 8 inches. Also not smaller than 3 or they will be considered a snack.
A catfish or pleco as mentioned before is a good idea.

I have a monster Oscar 14+" and he would do fine in a 100g I'm sure of it. You'll want too double up the filtration and consistent with your water changes and i'm sure it would be a beautiful tank for an oscar. I would also recommend starting with the 100g let it grow properly with some space!

have u seen youtube vids, wether its a narrow tank or not i see the oscars to be quite slow moving or lazy at one end lol im guessing they have 13inch width with their 55g they using. i see that alot at searches.
