    Default Green Terrors Breeding

    Hi,
New here, excuse me if I step on toes as I launch right into it. My Green Terrors started breeding about a year and a half ago. Every two months she drops eggs, a couple hundred hatch, after a month we have about 25, after 6 weeks about 5 or 6. Then eggs again, and soon enough the last 5 or 6 are gone. We go through this over and over and wonder:

Can we do anything with only one tank to prevent the deaths?
As my adult GTs get older (they're only about two right now, he's just showing signs of getting a hump on his forehead) are they going to have even more?

Their tank mates are 3 plecos, one Raphael and a Bumblebee cat.

    thanks,
    Simon

more babies will survive if you remove the raphael and bumblebee. you could also syphon or net out the babies into a grow out tank once they are free swiming. large green terrors can have much larger spawns than 200, more like 500- 1000 eggs.

    cheers,
    Jordan

I suspected the catfish, but was never certain. As they are my favorites, I'll let the GTs continue to give them fresh food every other month. Maybe another tank down the road to see if I can get these little fellas to live. They seem to start moving throughout the tank (albeit under parental supervision) after about a week, so I'll assume that's the free-swimming part.

what size tank are they in. You could use a tank divider and siphon the babies to the safe side of the divider. I have lots of breeding fish and until I got more tanks the was the system I used. It works very well. You are not changing any water conditions for the fry so they are not going to stress. Good luck!!
