I'm not an expert but I do believe it is a male Kenyi. Looks exactly like mine. My kenyi rules one third of my 120 gal, the left side. Each weekend when I do a water change I sweep all the gravel back under the driftwood in his section of the tank which he has piled up into the corner so he can move it back out again. LOL

i will take some more picture but i am sure i have stripped this one of fry before. The male that i had in the tank looked like this (brighter yellow) and he had egg spots. This one was a duller color but when the male died she turned a brigher yellow. I have another one that i think is a kenyi also but she is a dull blue yellow color.

This fish has been in the school aquarium since OCt 2009.

If it is there from 2009, then it is definitely not a young fish, which means your point about egg spots is valid.
Females usually stay blue and only males (especially the dominant ones) will show yellow. Maybe this could be a hybrid? Not sure anymore.

Usually you can only have one male in the tank. If there is a second one and he shows any colour there will be a fight to the death. The females dont morph into the bright yellow.
