    i want to stock cichlids in my 55gal, thinking of mbuna yellow labido, but i want to have a school of tetras.. bad idea? or any recommendations

    :s

    was thinkin of adding a bunch of large schooling fish first
    and adding a few dwarf mbunas after

    large neons/ cardinals ok?? or

    Tetras with african mbunas????eek

    Keep it withen the same region please...except for the rare exception.

    I have heard people go with giant danios or Rainbow fish in their african cichlid tanks. These fish range from about 3.5 - almost 5". The tetras you mention are simply expensive food for africans.

    Your 55 will probably be ok for your Labeo Carealus, and some dwarfs would likely do well, but I think you will top out at 2-3 dominant male cichlids in a 55 particularly if you have the dither/schooling fish.

    Dwarf Cynotilapia may be a good species or some salousi might work though one of the sexes is yellow so don'y know of there's a cross breeding issue.


    there's good info on the web and here if you decide to go ahead with cichlids. My 2 cents.

    was thinking red line torpedo barbs with my cichlids..
    i got an electric blue and yellow for now :s
