That's just an Oscar being an Oscar... Probably looking at his reflection in the bottom of the tank as well, right?

My oscar does the same, but doesn't sit there, but this is how it works:
    You don't decorate his tank
He decorates his own tank! =/

It would be strange if he was NOT digging and redecorating. Get used to it, it's his space and he will use it as he pleases.

i have buds who have oscars and what u said is normal behaviour, oscars can also play dead to catch fish in the wild, not sure if they try that in aquarium tho.
and that as they say is that.

I've seen mine play dead , normally its when he's mad at me though not too catch prey lol.

And i agree , this is common behavior if you want him too stop then given him something else too focus on. I'd suggest getting him something to look at, Ping pong balls, floating thermometers, dithers, anything that will move around the tank keep him entertained

Haha. I keep about 20 fry/juvenile mbuna in the tank with my oscar and he's always busy chasing them around. Mine is a sissy though, the 9" L330 is tank boss and keeps the oscar in line. lol.

Mine does it too. Even in the new tank with sand he still does it. He has found out that he is so powerful he can just thrust his tale and it moves a large amount.

My Red Devil does it as well in his tank with gravel.

They are creating their home where they feel most comfortable and a safe place to retreat if they are spooked.

When I do a water change I always level it out, and they do it all over again. They get mad if you put large rocks where they sleep
