    Default Oscar/cichlid snack foods?

Any suggestions on alternative treat food or snacks for my oscars and green terror?

They're on a staple diet of Hikari cichlid pellets, New Life Spectrum pellets, and Ken's spirulina fish flakes with raw veggies and algae wafers that they share with the pleco and the catfish. I also give them bloodworms and brine shrimp every so often, along with the odd dried krill turtle snack (which led to the tiger oscar chomping down on my finger, the pig).

I occasionally drop in worms from the garden (fish spaghetti!) or any spiders that the cats miss out on, but I was wondering if mealworms or crickets might be good for them, seeing as they are insectivores in the wild. The oscars are both unbelievable pigs, but the terror seems to be pickier.

I'm not a fan of beef heart or live feeder fish due to high fat and quarantine issues, although I might drop in some of the spare guppies!

    Gone fishing....

mine love meal worms, crickets and super worms, its also a great way to get extra nutrients too fish since you can gutload the insects before feeding.

I've started several superworm breeding colonies, meal worms are smaller but MUCH easier too keep and breed. Once they get going in a good breeder colony you'll never run out. just too small for my fish.

Super worms require a few extra steps because you have to separate the worms to pupate them, but again once you get some beetles and worms in different stages of life you'll never run out!

crickets i'd buy over breeding, i find they stink because of the humidity, i run into mold problems and loose batches , not too mention they escape and are crickets lol so you hear them all over the house!

On another note , my Oscar likes chopped cooked carrots quite a bit as well

My Oscar LOVES prawn, he even comes to the top to eat it out of my hand.

Usually in the summer I will leave a window open and try to catch some live flies, or smack them so they are just bumbling around on the water top to catch the fish's attention.

Gonna try crickets for my bass and dat as well.

My Oscar sniffed at a cray fish but probably didn't wanna deal with it. haha

Live blackworms are always welcome. Also thawed shelled peas.
