Default some old and new African's

I picked up a few dozen new Mbuna and Vic's this weekend, Sme new species some just new blood, of course now that they have been added to my tank it's impossible to get pictures but I’m working on it lol.

Today’s attempt didnt go all that great, just have a couple i'll share. The new fish are still too nervous to stay still in full color for a pic.

any way here' the one i was trying to take pictures of, proud new owner of a group of red top ndumbi, here are the 2 males first the less dominate one this is what he looks like unless someone pic's a fight with him, he's not overly dominate.

then the dominate male also not in his best color in these pics,

And here's the reason for his torn fins

not sure on the species on this one but it's clearly pseudotropheus of some sort, and quickly put the Ndumbi in their place

and some random group shot's using my hand as a lure lol,

and a female who was breeding with one of my males within 8 hours of being put into the tank

More pic's too come, I’ll need to let them settle in especially the vic's before i can get decent pic's right now although most are in color, they can't stay still the mix is still settling into the new hierarchy.

in the 6th picture...in front of your hand. what is that?...the OB fish. I saw this one a few months ago and the body shape looks similar. i thought it was a fuelleborni, but i think im mistaken.

    ID this fish.

Thanks, I believe its a labeotropheus trewavasae. I have 3 males another like him and a "rosy" (pink OB male, actually it’s the blurry one in front of him in that pic) I also have a couple OB females and a blue female.

the yellow is a hybrid project, they are Red zebra's who were way back crossed into yellow lab to transition the xanthic gene over to red zebra's,
The end result after several generations of selective breeding is a fish who in all aspects is a red zebra for traite, except solid NEON yellow in color .

PLEASE NO HYBRID BASHERS< IF YOU DONT LIKE THEM DONT LOOK!
any way now that that is out of the way, I picked them up because the results are stunning, I then started my own project to breed a nice line of OB that i have back into the yellow to make an electric yellow OB zebra

Here’s an example of my best result so far... although I think the next generation will be spectacular!!

just looked at the pic again, 3 of the yellow fish are the hybrid strain, the one I the top right of that picture is an actual PURE male KENYI who also is a very bright yellow!

it looks too full-bodied to be a trewavasae...trewavasae's look wierdly long. and he looks just right.

i thought that was kinda wierd, not bad wierd...but i've noticed that on my red zebras, the shimmer on each scale. well...they look really good! the yellow OB zebra too!! now that i've seen these...it makes me think that hybridizations aren't that bad. whenever i used to think of it...i'd think of malformed frankenstein looking fish. i think if ppl are open with what they're doing and not harming the fish, im all for it!! i wanna see more as it progresses!

    thanks guy's,

and yes that trewv pictured is more "stubby" then normal when younger he was longer, the females are much more stretched looking.

My guess is that it's just a very domestic line maybe even crossed with zebra or something something a few generations ago, he's also fat which helps him look rounder then he really is lol

I did own the parents of that OB, and his father was shaped the same, while his other mother was more typical looking. The father was produced by a friend so I know it’s parents were both trewv’s as well, so perhaps the fathers bloodline was crossed with something else a few generations back further then I cant trace or perhaps it’s just the result of domestic breeding. I’m happy with the little guy either way!

With all honesty, I could care less about the fish being a hybrid or not, as long as it looks nice =) Good work!
