Stocking Ideas for a 55 Gallon Tank

I have a 55 Gallon that I would like to stock with american cichlids. I dont want to over stock this tank so I am wondering if anybody can give me any suggestions of what kind of american cichlids I can put in this tank and what fish I can put together. Thanks

If your tank is only 12" Wide, you will be limited. Some great choices would be fire mouths, acaras, Geophagus (smaller varieties) and apistos. You wont be able to get many new world cichlids in there. BIG no nos are red devils, oscars, Severums, Flowerhorns, Jaguars, and anything that will get over 10"

Convicts would also fit in the tank, though you wont have much choice of tank mates after. I say try a bunch of Dwarf Cichlids, German Blue Rams, Bolivian Rams, Apistos, etc. Angels or some Discus might work as well. Basically anything under 6" would do fine.

My orginal plan was new world cichlids till I did some reading and found out my tank isnt big enough.

Vancouver West has the dwarf Cichlids, I believe Pat from Canadian Aquatics has the Rams and many other fish. Angels and Discus are everywhere
