You can try it but between the sevs and the oscars I would expect your plants to get beaten up. Try plants attached to driftwood, like java ferns and annubias. That would probably be yourr best option.

I have done it with JD's, Chocolate Cichlids and even silver dollars, but I ended up having to inject CO2 to grow them fast enough so it wasn't all destroyed. And ended up with 90% epiphytes instead of rooted plants because the cichlids and plecos dug around too much. So it can be done, but whether or not it's worth your time and insistence is up to you. I can guarantee that you'll be replanting again and again though.

You could try floating plants to overcome the digging up part, but I seriously doubt it would work because they would most likely end up eaten or damaged. The old guy's (forgot your name wheels ) advice above is a really good one (injecting CO2) and you can try both floating and driftwood/rock planting.

Personally, I think its too much of a hassle. If you really need, you could just get some plastic plants and tie them to the rock or wood.

I've had good luck in the past with Amazon swords planted in 5 inch ceramic pots. I put in 1/2 potting soil, 1/3 fine gravel, topped with coarse gravel. If possible get the swords established in another tank and the transfer them over.
