    Default LF help

Visited a friend during the weekend and discovered a neglected tank. It's a 10 gallon, half full of water due to evaporation.
no heater, filter, pump. no nothing. Never done a water change. only topped off the tank.
a dozzen guppy fry and 2 neon tetras living in here. Also a snail problem.

So I'm going to help her. But she's broke and i'd rather not invest any money in this.
If anybody has FREE equiptment for a 10 gallon i'd love to take it off your hands.
Looking for a hood, light and heater. I have a spare filter but if somebody has one kicking around as well, i'd take that too. (sponge filter will due as well)

Please help me make this tank thrive.

I may have a spare heater. Will have to check as sometimes I forget that I've already given something away. I have spare lights, but perhaps nothing that would fit a 10 gallon tank unless she's interested in a clamp-on workshop lamp with a fluorescent twist bulb in it? I used that on a 12 gallon planted for a long time; it was very effective. She is welcome to that.

But, if she's running a tank without a light, filter or lid, maybe she would benefit from switching over to a betta? It might suit her interests better. And it won't multiply, like guppies. If she wants to give you her fish, I'd be happy to give her a gift certificate to a local pet store for one betta.

I'm going to try and teach her the basics and hope that she grows to love it.
If a few weeks pass by and nothing is progressing, i'll be taking the fish in. The problem is that it looks so plain without the proper care and lighting. Once she sees the tank thrive i believe she'll start taking proper care of this..

Monainy, I'd love to take the heater off your hands if it's still kicking around. As for the light, I too have a few of those, So i'll pass on that part.
Shoot me a PM if you still have it.

    thanks!

I'm at her place at least once a week. I'll be able to nurse these guys back from a weekly visit. I'll be over tonight to check water parameters. I'll throw on a filter and an airstone to get some water movement.
I'm guessing that there will be high ammonia and just a little bit of nitrite. The lack of water movement would disable bacteria to form.

    But back to the post.
Anybody have a filter, canopy/light or heater?

Go slowly ! fish get used to some pretty nasty conditions and a big swing in the right direction may kill all of them !

I think we have an old air pump and some tubing you can have. Very old and noisy, but it works. May also have some old sponge filters if you don't have an HOB.

    Gone fishing....

Very kind people here as usual. Agree with Acipenser, don't get overly excited about major clean up. Go slow or you may loss everything. I won't even add light until you have the tank clean up a little bit and the fish climatized. Throw a light on now and you may have algae to fight.

Good news is you know the fish in there are survivors that you really have to work hard to kill
