The absolute best deal is to buy some fresh shrimp in bulk at the fisherman's wharf in Steveston, Richmond and then freeze them yourself. They are in season from about April to June. The nice thing about these shrimp is they are fresh caught from local waters and go straight to your freezer.

Oh, be careful with using those super worms, they can be really addictive for Aros. I own a very picky super red who only eats them!

I'd try to get your fish eating cut up market prawn from Safeway ($7-14 per bag depending on whether they have a sale on). Make sure it is the raw shell on kind; also, don't buy tiger prawn, most aros find it too chewy I think. Once you have your shrimp, just thaw one piece, remove the shell, cut into little cubes, and target feed the fish. Throw pieces just ahead of the fish as it swims and it should go for them. When the fish gets bigger you can load the shrimp with pellets for extra nutrition. This is the best overall way to raise an aro in my opinion.

Tiger prawns are actually better than shrimps. Prawns contain higher protein and brings out the color fast. But downside they have harder shell and expensive.

Yeah, you are probably right Earl. I know I would rather eat prawn than shrimps any day!

I find aros/loaches/rays don't take to jumbo tiger prawn as well, just my experience. I've always put it down to the "chewiness" of the prawn.

Best to cut them up. My aros prefer prawns than shrimps. Don't know why but they like the expensive food somehow. They will take shrimp too but if the two foods are drop in they will take the prawns and leave the shrimps to the bichirs.
