I'm just wondering if anyone has ever used decorative household plants from dollar stores in their tanks. I was looking at them yesterday and it looks and feels very similar to plastic aquarium plants.
I'm curious if they are aquarium safe

Personally, I wouldnt chance it. Who knows what toxins could be in them.
I used to have them many many years ago for my cichlid tanks. There were some tiny wires inside that could rust, but I hadn't noticed any ill effect on the fish. I guess weekly water changes helped.
I just didn't like the plastic/fake plants getting brown algaes a lot.
I have a bunch of various plastic aquarium plant that are going to be trashed soon.
Almost new if you care to take a short trip to Coquitlam![]()
ive used some that were from Daiso.
Made of hard plastic material. It looked nice and all. But after time the colour faded. So i took it out. Luckily no fish died.
Probably wouldnt chance it again.

I wouldn't risk it. They will fade, get covered in algae and if they DO have wires in them (which they almost always do) you run the risk of getting metals/rust in the tank water.
