    Default KH/GH for a CA tank?

    Central american tank.
    Jack Dempsey
    Red Hook Silver dollar
    Rainbow chichlid - Herotilapia multispinosa
    Salvini Cichlid - Nandopsis Salvini

    So i'm testing buffers so get my gh and kh better than 'zero'. How is this for my tank? Any advise? I dosed for 10gallons using tap water+dechlor

    pH 7.4
    GH 60mg/L
    KH 100mg/L

    Gh could be a bit higher at around 100 KH is fine.

    remember that some buffers will not reflect well on a GH test. Kent RO right is an example of this

    I used Seachem's 'Equilibrium' and 'Alkaline buffer'

    As long as I have a good Kh I'm not too worried. Their just CA fish, so they don't need a super hard buffer like Malawi cichlids.

    KH measures carbonate(the important one) buffering capability.

    GH has nothing to do with buffers except that it may reflect the presence of something like calcium carbonate that contains both GH and KH.

    GH is the hardness of the water. No fish deserves to be put into soft conditions such as out tap water.
    We should be adding some sort of buffer.
