A friends Livigstonii is holding, should he separate her into a 20 gallon or leave her a d then strip her. He's got a 20 gallon going on stand by and I thought to put her in there untill she spits out the fry.

If it's the first time, i'd let her do it naturally. Otherwise you may as well strip her if you have a tumbler.
This is her first time.I would rather have her do it naturally, but the tank that she's in is full of Livingstonii,Venustus,Tillapia,Calvus and Comps.I'd give the fry a minute to survive. With my Trophs I usually check the mother, once I know that she's holding, whether she's got eggs or if they've hatched already. If the fry already have used up most of they're yolk sacks then I strip the Mom and they go in the breeder. I also heard that it's beneficial for the fry to feed offf of the Mom's slime coat. So my question is do I put her in the breeder or just the fry once they're ready? Also what is the hatching period for Livingstonii?

Cant answer most of that. But i can say you should separate her. And let the fry grow out in another tank. If she spits in the main tank, you'll never catch them!
