    Default New Brackish tank (upgrade)

25 gallon tank is being replaced by a 65 gallon acrylic been set up for two weeks today and just upgraded the filtration system from a ac 110 to 2 fluval 304's and used my old filter sponge from the current tank with a ac 50 placed it into one of the trays of the 304's, salt content and ph levels are the exact same in each tank can I transfer my gsp's today or should it cycle still cause new filters and the sponge being too small to have enough good bactira? I hope that was not too confusing lol..

    Thanks Colin

    Default Salinity

I would be more worry about raising the salinity too high in too short of a time. If you do that you will kill all the bacteria in your filter media. I read it is safe to raise the salinity 1.002 a week. Anymore than that and you risk killing the bacteria.

I am assuming you are bringing the filter media from a fresh water setup.

bacteria in a brackish tank wont mind the slanity if it's the same,

As for moving fish, if you've moved the media YES move the fish other wise you just wipe out the bacteria a clean tank has no food. They starve off VERY quickly

Here’s how i upgrade tanks I’ve done it more times then I can count over the years with fresh and brackish so far has worked 100% of the time haven’t has a mini cycle yet in a new tank!

step 1, fill new tank, adjust water to match, start new filters
    step 2, move fish over
step 3, remove all dirty filter media from old filter wash it INTO the new tank, yes the dirtier it looks when your done the better!
step 4, place no cleaner media into new filters,

by the following morning tank will be clear, in the mean time the Mulm is seeding EVERYTHING your substrate, decor, filters ect.

    works like a charm!
