    QuestionPearl Gouramis - 2 or 3

I have a 45g heavily planted community tank with one male and one female young Pearl gouramis. They seem to get along fine most of the time but occasionally the male "attacks" the female. It's more of a show of aggression with no damage. More bark than bite. I was wondering if I should be getting a third female - would that be the best to avoid future problems?

Gourami's are very territorial i have had a couple in my tank and they would case each other and "fight" each other with their long antennas but no damage was caused

Adding a second female is a good idea to split the aggression so that one female isn't constantly picked on. That being said, I once had 2 female and 1 male dwarf gourami and the females were more aggressive toward each other than the male.

I started with a pair of Pearls and the male harassed the female so badly that she died. By himself he hid all the time so my kind husband bought me 2 more. Unfortunately they were male and female. I quickly went and bought another female.
Everyone is now happy. The aggression seems to be spread out with the females picked on more and the males largely tolerating each other.

I picked up a second female today. There was a lot of aggression towards both females by the male, but that was around feeding time. Outside of that, there seems to be a peace and i've even spotted the 3 of them hanging out on occasion. We'll see how it goes...
