Thumbs up Potential New Aquarium Store in the Vancouver Area

I have a couple of friends who are interested in opening an Aquarium store in the Greater Vancouver area They want to make this a store that is friendly to all local aquarists and they would like any input that you may have......re. what types of fish ( both freshwater and marine ), plants, corals, and other related aquarium supplies that you would like to see in a lfs
They also will have a web t page and would like to "pick local aquarists' brains" for useful articles They are interested in becoming sponsors in B.C. aquaria when they confirm their purchase of a site Any suggestions or thoughts that you have will be appreciated. You may reply on this thread or pm. me.
    Thank you . George

Be nice to see a store that has lots of live plants and co2 equipment. I was out that way today and came home empty handed.

For Burnaby, there is a lack of nano tank products. Most of us have to commute all the way to downtown to get a decent selection, and that in itself has prevented me from making much more purchases.

Focusing on fish suited for those means would also help. Killiefish, Bettas, smaller tetra and rasbora species and simple cherry varieties of shrimp would be a start.

The aquarium business is an extremely tough one to make a living at. I used to work in a pet store and I have a good idea just how little money there is in fish. My advice would be to focus on outstanding products for dogs and cats and have fish as a sideline. Seriusly, there are like 50 people with dogs and cats for every 1 with fish.

Aquariums west is a store your friends should look at, they have different fish and the nicest plants in town all the other pet stores have crappy plants. Jl aquatics is another great store. It would be cool if the new store would carry the full Eheim product line.

Thanks for your input. You are correct. Both Aquariums West and JL are great stores

if ur friend open is Richmond , it will be great! because in Van or Burn have many store,,,
in Richmond so far only a few store only ( Ipu and PJ.. will have another Pet Smart coming soon ) , i like go to Big Al's before, but since they change new one i dont go there often, every time i went there is same kind fish, i believe it is not only me have this thinking, but if you go to Burnaby area have more choose , but it is far for me, so it better open in Richmond , i know if in Richmond the small aqurium is hard to run ( because there have big 3 Store ) ,but if have one is real Aquarium store, i will often go there!

Not sure of the feasibility of carrying "the full line of Eheim products" I'll get them to check it out
