    Default quick water changes

I was getting tired of how much time I spent doing water changes and How long it took with my 50ft python . So I found some left over 1.5" pvc pipe and fittings. I manage to come up with this contraption . I also lucked out find cheap tubing at rona. It cost me $ 10 for 24ft of 1.25" tubing. It now takes 7 minutes to drain 90 gallon of water . Here are a few pictures. enjoy

Here is the tubing I got from Rona

heheh, you still have to suck on it? I use to think water change is part of the fish keeping fun but after I switch to drip system, I would never want to do water change again. Save me on the cost of Prime as well.

You better not pout, you better not shout. Water meters coming to town

Attached a $50 sump pump to it and the pump will do the sucking. Then he can do 90 gallon in 70 seconds My actual sump pump blows out 3g from the sump in less that 2 sec

Dave: You got the idea It will even be faster if you plumb a strainer low in the tanks and hide it behind a stump or some rock work. Put a ball valve in you cabinet. Pull the hose out, turn the valve, no sucking require. It is gravity all the way, faster than siphon.

Replace the ball valve with a solenoid on timer. Plumb and water through that carbon filter I gave you to the tank or sump and control that with a float switch / level sensor some how. You never have to worry about water change again. That was my vision of an automatic WC system.

Be careful with those cheap hose though. If you don't move them around, they, they could last forever. The one in my sump has been there for over 10 years. It may develop cracks where you kink it or stepped on it, leak air and slow down the siphon. Spend another $10 when it is time. They do get brittle very fast under UV - so don't just throw them out to your back patio.

I am SO setting this up. Filling the tanks is no problem, but draining them sucks. Literally.

    Gone fishing....

It is well use for big tank as it is taking too long to do water change so they have a drip water go through carbon filter and drip into the tank few gallon per hour depend on how much you want to change per day and it auto drain out from the overflow pipe.

It is my concern right now as I know Burnaby water will be increase again soon but I am glad there is no water meters yet.
