If u slowly add small fishes in, you should be fine. Don't over stock and over feed.
Stefan,
My thoughts about this are, getting a sponge is only going 'half way' into borrowing and cycling an aquarium. What you need to add to that is some sort of 'bio media'(bio balls, stars, ceramic rings, pot scrubbers etc you get the idea). The more bio media you have, the more space good bacteria can settle on and start to work on the cycling process.Adding stock right away, you asking for problems and headaches which would end things the wrong way.Give it some time, and be patient it pays off ten fold in the end.Rummynose tetras are very sensitive to high amounts of ammonia-nitrite-nitrate in their water.I see them as 'canaries in the gold mine' kind of fish(as told by Gary and others) and will tell when things go bad with their water as the red fades away from their face and they lose color in the rest of their body as well.

Hello. well if your going planted you could get some plant substrate, and most of them come with good bacteria in the bag. it will say on the bag if it has it. add that and add 2 or 3 fish maybe some danio's or black skirt tetra something cheap and hardy to start. and get some cycle or stability to make sure you have a safe bio load. and of coarse check you nitrites every day. Cheers
