Substrate, Or sand??

    I have a 90 Gallon with Sand in it ...what kind of gravel vaccum will i need to clean it with ...want to make sure that the sand doesnt get sucked out of my tank when i clean it...i have rocks in my other tank so i know they cant get through

    ???? any answers?

    You can put nylons over the vacuum and that will stop the sand from being sucked up
    135g - Fahaka tank
    60g Diamond - brackish tank with 2 Figure 8's,dragon goby, knight goby, 3 molly's and 4 orange chromides
    29g - community(son's tank)
    55g - community

    3M doesn't get sucked up too easily... the quartz & ceramic makes it heavier than play sand.

    I use a python on my tank with sand. You just hover the nozzle above the sand and it will pull up the dirt without taking the sand.

    after a few water changes you'll find that its easy enough to just hover over the sand. the built up detritus (organic waste) is very light and will get sucked up fine this way, if you just want to suck water out, i rest the end of mine on a piece of driftwood so it wont fall onto the sand.
