    Default First timer

Hi all, as the title states first time to this site. Had a tank once upon a time, many moons ago. I had my nephew at Vancouver Aquarium a few weeks ago. I had forgotten how interesting they could be. I have decided to get a tank again, and so the dilema has begun. The million dollar question... SW or FW? how big is too big to start with? what is the optimum size for a true newby? Starting with absolutely nothing, contemplating taking over someones existing system, it's 135 gal SW. Appreciate any help and suggestions, in Richmond and was directed to the site by April @ Aprils Aquarium. Thanks...

I'd make it easy on myself and stick with FW, but that's just me. I just started into the SW adventure of a year and a half of FW tanks.

    Welcome.

SW is definitely has more interesting and colourful species, but the start up price can be steep and maintenace is more time consuming and costly (mixing sw, tests and additives).

IMO if you do a nice planted tank with fish and shrimp it can be just as nice and much easier to maintain from my experience.

If you drill around there are some really nice setups by many members and they can give you some great advice to speed up the learning curve and away from the pit falls.
