If you're looking to go into dwarf cichlids, I would suggest starting with apistogramma cacatuoides. They're readily available, inexpensive, hardy, easy to breed, and comes in quite a few colour strains (red, double red, triple red, orange flash, etc). Kribs would work, but they can get neurotic when breeding and kill everything in site. Rams would also work, I'd suggest bolivians since the german/blue rams can be quite a bit more finicky, and may require higher than average temperatures.
