not in the home aquarium. They never get that large, as 400lbs is around the record for them. Plus it was a royal nile perch and they get even smaller...still get big but not that big.

the responsibility is with the store, that should make sure they are selling fish to ppl with appropriate tanks.

Sorry Grant, I'm not out to turn this thread into a debate , as it is for advertising expected shipments & questions or comments about them. But I somewhat disagree with the above members quote. Considering the database available these days, I believe it's more the customers responsibility to research things before jumping into them, especially asking questions at the LFS. Any good LFS, especially IPU, will educate the customer & make sure they know what it takes and what to have. Concern for having proper equipment is much appreciated but, I'm sure it is safe to say that Snow is by far a newbie to the hobby & knows it's requirements already. And if they didn't, they would definitely do their research and ask questions. They have had one before, not too mention have had large tanks and large fish.
There are many species we keep that would grow to a mammoth size in the wild, from giant gouramis to whatever. But since many grow to their surroundings. I think it safe to say, a nile perch will never even come close to that size in an aquarium, especially with the controlled diets they have. Just my .02
