    Default Goliath Tigerfish!

    Hey everyone!
We received one Goliath per store from our congo shipper as a trial! They are 3-4" and are true Goliath! They will need a day or two to settle in, they are $119.99! I have not seen them myself yet but sounds like they are the real deal!

You'd need a swimming pool to house an adult Goliath... and only allow people you don't like to swim in it .

    Exactly!!
You can ask about tank size but how can you possibly ensure proper care for this mammoth killer for its entire life??? Or where it ends up next??? I guess that isn't the problem of the LFS once sold. Can wash their hands & responsibility for it after that. Fine example of responsible importing of fish for retail to the public.
    Cheers!!

There is a reason I only brought in two. One per store will likely ensure the right hobbyists purchase it. Have you ever seen a full size Bala shark? Unlikely but I have seen some incredibly healthy sub adults kept in 100 gallon aquariums. Most fish will never reach full size in captivity regardless of the space provided. Fish produce pheromones so they do not outgrow the environment. With proper care this fish can thrive for many years in an aquarium while maintaining proper health and growth. We also export livestock to public aquariums and larger facilities over the years, if you want to criticize the hobby in general feel free but posting sarcasm in my own sub forum is a bit much. Some people reserve their criticisms of the hobby to larger fish only, truth is how many hobbyists have even the smallest of fish in aquariums far too small. Keeping a Platy in a bowl is no more cruel then a Tigerfish in a 10 gallon.
Our job is to guide the hobbyist as best we can into making the right choices. I sleep well at night knowing my team performs that task every day. This hobby will be around forever, as stores and hobbyists we can do our best to ensure the best care for all fish available.
It is extremely unlikely this fish would survive in our streams or lakes. Same reason Piranha would not stand a chance, the weather conditions are far too extreme for a fish like this. IMO.

Your sub-forum is part of this public forum which I am a member & have every right to express my opinion & will whether you like it or not Grant. It's not like I started a thread in your sub-forum bashing IPU. I responded to something you initiated that I don't agree with. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Just because you have a sub-forum does not mean everything you say is correct & just. I have no doubt you sleep well at night, probably wonderful dreams of well looked after fish thriving in their wonderful surroundings like maybe the way a large Motoro enjoys cruising in it's 40G or so breeder tank for months & months on end???

Wow, OK. Yes we agree to disagree. And yes I sleep well knowing that I provided a home for that Motoro after the owner passed away in another province and I was the only one willing to not only cover the expensive shipping but house it for how many years? Yes it is in a holding tank, it is over 100 gallons and has the best footprint out of any holding tank in the store at 36" x 30". This aquarium is also connected to that wall system of 2200 gallons. That ray is extremely healthy and is ready to go when I find a hobbyist with the right size aquarium. Until then, he is fat and healthy and showing no signs of stress.
Why are you so quick to judge me?
