    Default Instore Pricing Policy

    Hey Grant,

Just wondering what you pricing policy is?
I was in one of your stores today and wanted to purchase something.
But apparently your manager told me that the staff made a mistake and would not sell me at the price that was posted.

I don't know what the stores policies would be but I know the government has rules about pricing and fairness. You should have gotten the item for whatever the price was marked as...

I think this is a question that should have been asked directly.

However if more than one of the same item is miss-priced it would make sense that it was a mistake and the computer/till would have the correct price.

Some unscrupulous individuals will switch prices on items to get them cheaper.

This definitely should have been asked directly through pm. I assume you are referring to our store used Zoo Med terrariums that are on 50% discount? One out of all the terrariums listed was miss priced at $4.99 instead of $54.99 however it is clearly a mistake as it also read $109.99 50% off. I don't think this has anything to do with a pricing policy, but trying to use a mistake to one's advantage. All the other terrariums are correct and also clearly marked as being 50% off.

Wow, the OP was posting a public complaint(as opposed to PM) because they wanted a Zoo med terrarium for $4.99 even though based on what you said, common sense and evidence from signage around and prices of the other units around that that was a mistake? I wonder how long it took to root around to find the only one priced at $4.99?

    Angry

The Public posting was quite vague. Grant filled in all the detail to the complaint.
So lets fill in the rest of the details; it was in the burnaby location with the store manager Sarah Sienen who was helping me. The line in question read Zoo Med 40 Gallon terrarium was $109.99 sale $4.99. Now its really not my fault the the staff at IPU can't divide by 2?
I'm sure you learn that in grade 3.

Actaully it was by the front door. 2 identical 8" X 10" Signs.

I decided to post this rather than PM because it has occurred more than once with my self on livestock and I have observed it with other customers. At both richmond and burnaby location.

I can understand wanting them to honor the sticker price if say it was a mistake like putting down $45 instead of $54, but expecting them to honor it at a $50 loss for $4.99 is a bit much.

You say that the staff at IPU can't divide by two well if you read the deal and saw that it's 50% off the regular price of $109 then obviously you knew right away there was a mistake and are obviously just trying to take advantage of the mistake. As far as I know there is no laws stating that they have to give it to you for the price it is marked as. If that were the case then how could a store protect themselves against people switching tags.

$54.99 is a damn good price on that 40g unit. To actually expect it for $4.99 IMO is just ridiculous. What I wonder is did you go into the store wanting to buy the terreraium to begin with or just happened to notice the mistake and just trying to take advantage of it.

To answer your question. I have been looking for an inexpensive tank for my cali kingsnake. Could have been cracked or damaged its for a snake. And when I saw the USED tank I looked at the 40G and then I looked at the signage. I quickly scanned to see the prices and noticed that the 40G was $4.99 so I asked what was wrong with the used tank.

    Just to answer your question.

    Magistrate,
A $109.99 aquarium at 50% off cannot be $4.99, could it. The manager on that night was perhaps in a bit of a hurry doing the temporary signs up so customers could take advantage of the pricing over the weekend. Clearly the price had intended to be $54.99 and she missed the 5 on the computer by pure accident. All the other terrariums are 50% off as well, yes a great deal.
Now that you have insulted my staff implying they cannot divide by two, I am through with this thread, have some respect. Any person looking at this logically would come to the same conclusion, this is a matter of principal now and the price stands. The law states that if a posted sign seems unreasonable and obviously a mistake then the operator is not obligated to honor that price. It is definitely UNREASONABLE to assume that an aquarium at 50% off of a regular price of $109.99 is $4.99. This would have been much better resolving as a pm but you chose to post it publicly on our own Subforum. As a result a few members jumped in and have elevated a situation that had no need to be in the first place IMO.
