    Default VERY rare Angelfish (Marine)

    Hey everyone!
This one goes out to any rare marine fans out there. Our Vanuatu facility recently collected a Black Spot Angelfish, Centropyge nigriocellus.
This fish has likely not been colleted since 1986 and is EXTREMELY RARE in the trade. It was collected in only 10 metres of water but is very cryptic by nature and almost impossible to see let alone collect. Admittadly we collected this one by pure accident when it ran into our net meant for another fish. We sold this fish to our exclusive Japan client who wholesaled it to the attached retailer. If you work your exchange on the Yen, this fish is being offered for sale in Japan for over $16000 USD. Hopefully we will find another one!
    Enjoy!

So I'm assuming you sold that fish for a decent price? That's a good catch Grant!

Good catch Grant. I read the news regarding the angel in another board. Didn't know it was your station who caught the fish.
Please bring some rare (or semi-rare) angels into Canada.

if theyre so rare wouldnt it be better to leave them in the ocean?
kinda sucks that something being rare can increase demand for it and threaten it further
thats just my opinion, im sure most people disagree with it ;/

    O.k!

That may pay off for some of us to sit by a tropical beach, set up nets and watch for 4 months? Make that a full time job

Probably better odd that the BC Lotto as well.

Agreed as I've seen nicer looking angel fish, its just desired due to its rarity, but to each their own as it's not illegal.

IMO its not even that nice of a fish - sure its ok, but the only thing making in expensive is its rarity. - if dandelions were hard to grow, would you let them live in your lawn?

Actually what makes this fish rare is the rarity of successfully collecting them. They are very cryptic meaning experts at hiding. There are likely heaps of them in Vanuatu, just never seen because they are living within the rock and rarely come out to be seen. Rarity with marine fish in general usually means rare to collect. We collect a lot of deepwater rarer fish but there are a lot of them there, just challenging to collect.
The Black spot we collected is likely the first one collected since 1986, for sure has no impact on the population. I had a lot of interest from the scientific community for this fish to catalogue it's DNA as there are no viable samples for this fish. I hope this addresses your concerns.
