Default Monster Godzilla UV for a Monster Tank

Hey guys after a long 2 week wait my 55 watt UV finally arrived. I hooked it up to my sump connected to a 550 gph@2' head pond pump. It's massive! It measures 26" x 6" and this is one of the largest UV units I've seen in person

My point and shoot camera video recorder doesn't do justice here. I need me a HD camera one day. Anyhow here's a video of my tank with the UV running for about 5 hours. I took this yesterday and all I can say is "wow" the water is even more clear today

    Thanks for viewing. Comments welcome.

That IS monstrous! What make is it and where did you get it from? The only concern I would have is that 55 w would put out a lot of heat, but then it's not a problem in your tank. For a smaller tank it would be a concern though, in the summer. I am having a problem keeping my 125 gallon below 27 C even in my basement, now that I added an 18 W UV, since the water circulates through it.

It's the Aqua Medic Helix Max 55 watt. Hmm I don't feel crazy heat coming out of it and my temp stays the same. Also in the summers I only run 2 x 300 watt heaters due to my tank being set up in the garage where my garage door gets direct sunlight so it's like a large heat box/sauna going on in there. In the winters I run 3 x 300 watts.

Cool. I have a lot of lights and pumps in my tanks (for plants and plecos) so I have a bit of a unique situation. I hadn't counted on so much heat transfer from an 18w UV, but since it's in contact with the water all the time, like the pumps and filters, it adds up.

Did you mail order from the US?

Tank is looking good. That uv is small for a 55 watts. I'm getting a 40 watt emperor aquatics and it's over 4 ft long.

Wow 4 ft long is crazy... Anyhow this is my 1st time experiencing a large size UV so this UV is still massive to me.

Thanks Chris. Ya they finally knew they were wrong and air mailed it to me. The rep was just giving Mitch a hard time. I'm pretty sure the BA's supervisor probably gave him trouble for it...
