    Default Newest RD UPDATE.

IT's been a lil over a month now.
He's grown a bit & is doing better @ being shy.
I just moved him again prior to these pix.
I'll keep the thread updated as he/she grows.

By some of these pix I'm starting to think he's a she.
Could have been the reason "she" didn't like the other female runts when she was with them.
Have a look & let me know what your think...
    Male... or Feamle... ???

Looking @ him from outside the tank he looks male, in some of the pix it looks like a female.

Still showing bars, I'm happy about this.

I put both thumbs & full(reduced) size, I wasn't sure it full size was too big.

Very nice!!! Sell me that RD. Lol! Hardy see any barred RD around even online vendors. I also have a yellow RD that is also a female. I thought it's was a white RD till it started turning yellow last month. Hopefully it will become red orange.

    Not for sale...(yet). LOL
When he/she settles in it has a yellow base.
I've never seen a barred & fluked out.
One of my "anonymous fish contacts" gave me a heads up & I went to grab it in a flash.

I've had it over a month & it's still showing the bars, maybe this is a good sign of things to come.

I've thought about getting into FH's many times but since I have a small collection of RD/Midas I thought I might as well stay pure/true specie(sort of).
My collection in no where near as impressive as yours EL.

I'm still a noob when it come to RD/Midas, my oldest is almost 2 years old, & my other female is ??? .

    Here's a few more shots:

One with the mouth closed(yes it does close LOL)

    & another vent shot:

Look at the red belly and gills on that RD. I'm not really into flowerhorn unless except for a thaisilk. Flowerhorns are just too expensive and too over rated. Why spend hundreds if dollars or almost a grand on a buying a hybrid which which can be done for free. That's why I don't buy flowerhorns. I like pure breeds better too.

    Thanks!!!
It was the 2nd selling point for me.
It was more vibrant when it had tankmates & before the move.
I'll update this thread frequently with how this fish progresses.

Yeah FH are just not a stable as I'd like.
Their colors & markings change too often for my liking.
If you get them young, you don't really know what to expect.
(& I like to grow out my fish.)
I think most FH look awesome, but what I like in FH can be found in most true species. IMO
That's the reason I was looking for a Festae,Trimac or Lyonsi.
I seen a really nice RTM/Red Tiger that I wanted but I wasn't prepared for it.

The only FH I'd get is probably a Thai silk too.
I seen the so called "Blue Devil", but it's not as blue as I'd like.

If I want to spend that kind of $$$ on a "mutt", I'll get another dog.

Blue devil are actually just RD that did not turn yellow or orange. Don't really like the way they look. I like thaisilk because due to the blue coloration and can also be seen when small. Is the RTM male or female? How big? I got a 8" female RTM that needs a larger or similar size partner. Since she killed her smaller partner before but previous owner managed to spawn them before when they are about the same size. The female just grew a lot bigger than the male under my care. The male had a deformed mouth and skull and that was probably prevented it from growing. Also got a female black nasty at 9" that my male 13" white midas wants to breed with. Hopefully it happens as I wanna see what the babies will look like.
