Just wanted to show a pair of pics of my new Florida Gar I picked up on Monday from Calc getting cozy with my older one. My camera doesn't take very good aquarium pics, but I am happy with the way these turned out. Enjoy.

Nice to see the little guy is doing very well with the big brother in a very good home!!
is the big guy on pellet yet James?
I don't know if he will ever be on pellet. He shows no interest in them. Although I do enjoy hand feeding him strips of basa fillet.
Very nice pattern on that large gar. Hope it stay that way when it grows bigger. Of all the gars I like the personality of florida gars as my florida gar is the gar that would go infront of the tank and beg for food. Kinda like a puppy dog wagging it's tail.
I agree with you on the personality of them. I had a Jardini in the tank with the Gar for a couple months and he slowly lost all his personality and just hid at the bottem. He even injured his back at some point and just lay on the bottom of the tank for two weeks. I was at the point where I debated euthanizing him. Then he started to eat a bit again and has since made a full recovery.
I never saw any aggression from the Jardini, but I think it was just so active that the Gar with his gentle demeanor just faded away. I have just sold my Jardini tonight and am already seeing the Gars personality return. It is also quite fascinating to see the two Gars interacting. I definitely advise anyone who is interested in a Gar to get two or more.
Thanks for the compliment on his patter, I just got the exact some compliment from Xander on MFK. Kudos to IPU in richmond for selling me such a great looking Gar last January.
Very nice, I can't wait to find one of my own~!
i also got one of these gars from Calc.
just wondering how you ID it as florida gar?
Simple, because of it's look. No other gar that look like that available in LFS will be a gator, cuban, longnose, shortnose, tropical or spotted. If your hoping for a spotted gar, it's not gonna happen. Most florida gar maybe labeled as spotted gar in many LFS but they are all just captive breed Florida gar. Both fish may look a alike but the snout can tell them apart. Florida have wider shorter snout. Spotted gar have slightly longer narrow snout.
