Default Ray with Oscar ? Looking for opinions, or experiences

Title sort of says it all, I'm looking at getting a pair of ray's in the new year tomorrow I’ll be picking up an nice sized Oscar as an adoption,

Would an Oscar bother the ray's if I kept them together ? if he will then I’ll simply put him in another tank, but if i can leave him in the 240 with the ray's, bichirs and ID shark, then he get's more room and I get more to look at in the big tank lol,

footprint is 5x3, filtration is more then enough to cover the bio load, and always growing (working on a switching to an even bigger sump and planted this time,)it's just a matter of compatibility between the species as I would like the rays to be comfortable when they arrive

Has anyone ever had an oscar with ray's ? how did it go ?

    the oscar was about 8"
and the ray was about 8" diameter and ended up getting bit on the back edges of its disk and started looking like it was peeling when it died.

I have done it before. It worked well. But Is not a good idea long term. If you aquascape your tank in levels, cichlids will not hang out at the bottom. The only issue with this, is you need to have the supports for your caves wider and wider as your ray grows.

If you keep your oscar well fed, you wont have an issue. Oscars rarley get territorial, they would only go after the ray for food.

With all this being said, My first ray died aswell. She was a motoro, about 9 inches. But the oscar and the ray never really crossed paths.

I'm going to put my 13" oscar back with my rays. He was in with some before that were around 8" when he was 10". That was a plain bare tank and all got along well. I think it depends on your oscar. I'm going to put him back this week in the barebottom tank with just driftwood. He will be with around 15" rays. I'm also going to add his parrot fish buddy too.

one thing you have to remeber is Oscar is also a big bio-load fish. So make sure your water is clean.
