    Default stingray questions?

so this motoro ray I just got. What kind of activity level should I be expecting. I am finding that the ray is staying in the same place for hours and hour on end. he doesn't seem to be swimming at all and is not to interested in any food. I have been feeding smeltfish and tried some blood worms. all feedings have been after the lights have been out for around half an hour. I just want to make sure I am not killing it. ph is around 6.8 ammonia and nitrates are 0ppm.
    thanks in advance

that is a wrong way to do it, You should have put the ray in the tank direct. As temp increase in small amount of water the ammonia in that water will become toxic. Where did you get the ray from and is it a wild caught? give it a day or two with light off then it should be fine. and yes add 1tablespoon of salt for every 20G should help.

When I bought my ray from Charles, he instructed me to do what the OP did to introduce the ray... Although mine did die a day later which was an absolute heart break!

if its from Charles then it is wild caught. I don't know if your friend have train it to eat something else rather then just worms. As wild caught ray it will take a while to convert them to eat something else. That's why experience ray buyer always ask them to feed their ray so you can see that the ray is eating. For now just do more water change and try some worms instead.

usually ray won't die over night like that and since you are getting from Charles so the ray is just about an hour or two from transport therefor not much ammonia build up but you never know because Charles never stop feeding them for local buy to pick up. And I bought many rays from Charles and none of mine die like that as long as my water is suitable for them. So your case is the water parameter must be way off for ray to tolerate or ammonia way to high in your tank. I recently bought a pair and its get mix up in shipping so the ray was in the shipping box for 26 hours and still survive and healthy in my tank.

Here is the result that I am talking about.

Thanks for the info. I am just going to do regular water changes and monitor the levels. He is eating smeltfish. I was able to watch him eat the whole thing last night. As well today I was able to see him swimming and fed him again. I think things are fine, he just seemed not be moving as much as I was hoping or expecting. I think he needs a lady friend. Thanks again.

I would say it's quite common for a ray to stop eating for a day or two after a move, followed by a quick recovery of appetite. Any differing opinions?
