    Default Mike's Pond with water

    Hi folks,
it has been a long project but I finally go some water and the plants I had rescued from another pond into my pond.
Here is the links to several photos:
Pond pictures by mbikes - Photobucket

This is a photo looking into the pond from the South side:

The pond is about 6 ft square in the bottom with a 4 ft diameter deep section ( 12" ) made by putting a 4 ft rubbemade pond into the hole fist to provide a refuge if the liner were to leak.

The round section is 5 ft to the bottom with the main bottom being 4 ft deep.
the top is about 7 ft 6" square except for the corner where the banana tree is.

I have a 500 GPH mag pump circulating the water trough a 50 ft length of 3/4" black PVC which is wrapped around the sides of the Rubbermade pond to provide cooling in the summer and warming in the winter.

The ground 4 ft down stays about 50 F year around so I'm using geothermal <G> heating.

I will be partitioning off part of the pond later for the turtles and as time goes on adding an 80 gallon kidney shaped pond and a rectangular 4' X 6'
    preformed pond to the area.

But I have had enough digging for a while.

Once the Turtles are moved I will use the 175 fiberglass tub as a Vegi bio filter for all the ponds.

The pond/s are an ongoing project to say the least.

Very nice pond Mike, do you fill it every week? I would assume with the hose splashing water that over time the water can evaporate... Are you planning on adding any koi fish?
who is yo daddy and what does he do?

I will be topping up the water in the pond from the various tubs I have scattered around my mobile home.

When I got the fish plants and liner for helping take down the pond I used every container I had to put the plants into. I added a few feeders/red nosed minnows, to each container to eat the insects.
The the RNM were the first fish to go into my pond... accidentally they were in one of the pond plant baskets with a lot of roots and I did not notice them till later.

Today I moved the first of my pumps 4200 GPH. and filter bucket intakes into the pond.

I have an 8 foot 2 X 10" I bought to allow me over the pond for plant placing and with 2 milk cartons it makes a perfect bench for fish watching.

I needed it to allow me to place a tall bucket with a marble slab on top to put my Papyrus plant onto.

I have one Mexican beer left, just right for fish watching<G>

A future project may be large diameter pipe 12" 14" ? in the center of the pond with several cut outs in it for the fish to be able to go in and out of and to make an island for the turtles with some bog plants.
I have some Arrowhead plant that would look good in the center with the Papyrus plant.

I'm looking at partially filling a 14 inch bike tube, with water and air to make a plant free feeding ring. Or some 1 inch closed cell backer for foam for the ring.

I will be adding Koi, various goldfish, brown carp/goldfish, and White Clouds I got from Storm.

I will be adding the fish slowly to reduce the chance of things going wrong.

I have about 100 fish to go into the pond from 14+" koi a 9" koi, several 6+" comets, and lots of 4" or 5" koi and all the fish from the pond I helped take down, a 5 gallon bucket full back in May.
