    Default Pond pains

Well Ive had my pond running for a few weeks and today was finished up the waterfall feature, and doing so I moved the pumps output pipe to a bad spot- and I guess the pipe shifted after I left.

When I was about to go to sleep about half hour ago, I heard a loud gurgling noise from my window and went outside to check the pond and realized my entire pond had been drained onto the dirt and pump was sucking in air!-for who knows how long.

Though I didnt have any fish in there yet, I had it cycling with some prime and other bio media, for now I pulled the plug for the pump out since its past midnight i didnt want to fill up the pond lol.

Anyways should I be concerned about the pump- does that damage the pump its a new pondmaster 500gph pump, it was partially submerged in water and felt cool to the touch, but the intake filter that its connected to sucked in air for who knows how long.

Sorry to hear. Had that happened to me before as well with fish in.

Pump should be fine. The worst is that it fails, then replace.

as long as it was submerged then it should be fine, I wouldn't worry about the filter so much. if there is any issue with the pump you will know right away when you turn it back on. the water works as lubricant for the pump so if you dont hear any abnormal noise and it still moves water then your fine..

Don't worry too much about the pump... I've had mine do the same ( suck air and mud all night), when raccoons ravished my upper pond and shifted the liner... Allowing most of the water to escape

The worst thing that's happened to my pump was having the frozen water and ice reach down and crack a part of the pump's housing. My pump has been in operation for over 12 years, and is fine... still working away.
Tree frogs, goldfish, and carnivorous plants keep me sane.

I've had this happen to me more than 4 times over the last 2 years. Both the pump and the fish survived.
