yap, you guys broke it, this is the email i received from datacenter this morning
I will have to get a whole different chatroom setup, that one is WAY too buggy and takes up too much resources.Hello,
I apologize, but I was forced to suspend the script "/home/nicklfir/public_html/bcaquaria/forum/chatroom/index.php" as it was causing a high load on the server, and due to it affecting all of the other accounts on the system, I forced to take immediate action for the health of the server.
Unfortunately I do not have any specific recommendations for this script, however, in general, adding some sort of caching mechanism, where the script does not need to generate a new page with every request, helps to lower the over load that a script will cause. Likely the original author or support group of the software that you are using will be able to help you to understand how to add something of this nature.
Please let us know how you would like to proceed.
I have been doing websites for.... 15 years... at least and i have NEVER heard of that.. lol.. you guys should be impressed.. Bad design of the chatroom script i think. Basically it reloads the page every second for every user.... almost like a DoS attack... but.. chatroom style![]()
I noticed that DoS style too Shawn, hiliarious.... Good luck with a fix man.
heres the thing though, we've had atleast triple the number of people chatting in that room at once before without issue, suprised it took until now for it to bog down the server, 3-4 people reloading pages is crap all.

what you can do in the meantime is reduce the time between updates in the js/config.js
check the time between update calls, if its less than 2000 ms it can cause issues with server load, 3000 ms between updates isn't a pain in the arse
also you can enable the Delay the update option. It will make the client side idle until some sort of input action happens.
the other option would be to use an IRC based web client or to use one of the free web client based services available that will let you link to a specific channel. I used to use PHP:IRC back in the day on my sites to bypass blocks (i even hosted my own proxy server)

Enabling delay the update would be a PITA I'd think. Hopefully he can reach as solution soon enough, I was wanting to log in and out of the chat all day today, lol.
